Texting while driving is a big problem and so is the distraction of cell phones being used at the work place. I am especially concerned about daycare workers and preschool teachers using their cell phones while they are on duty supervising the children. I’m afraid that the workers feel entitled to use their phones at work. Since they’re paid a very low wage and the work can be so boring, I’m afraid that they feel that using their cell phones at work is a right and not a priviledge. Some daycare workers deal with the boring, long hours by treating themselves to some stimulating cell phone conversations with friends and by staying in touch with the world via social media sites. Unfortunately, their reaction time is dimished significantly when they’re looking down at their phone when they should be watching their kids. Kids are getting hurt and cell phones are probably an unneccesary distraction at work.

Thanks for the note. I would love to have already built this for you but the iPhone operating system does not allow 3rd party apps like ours to run freely on their system. Specifically I need to be able to know when a text is being received and I need to be able to access the notification alerts for the phone. We think the day that Apple allows this is not far away. We like their product and can’t wait to develop OTTER for Apple. I will be in touch when this happens and thanks again for the interest.

This app seems like the perfect solution to ending texting while driving, but why is it only available for androids and blackberries what about iPhone??

I live in a state that has yet to ban “texting while driving”.

As a result of a near death experience, I started a “grassroots” community based campaign that will increase the level of awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. We will focus on education and behavior modification.

We have planned some very unique and exciting events that will occur over the next 4-5 months.
